Women's Soccer Earns NSCAA Team Academic Award For Eighth Straight Year

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's soccer team was named a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award winner for the 2015-16 academic year as announced on the NSCAA's official website on Thursday.

Under the direction of third-year head coach Sonia Curvelo, the Vikings posted a 3.67 cumulative grade point average, the 10th highest among all Division I, II and III schools who earned the award.

It marks the eighth consecutive year that the program has been recognized for its academics by the NSCAA. It is the ninth time overall that CSU has made the list, also garnering the award in 2002.

A total of 892 soccer teams (314 men, 578 women) from throughout the United States earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award for exemplary performance in the classroom as a team during the 2015-16 academic year.

To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic year. The team GPA is determined by adding every player's GPA, then dividing by the number of players.
