Week #6

THE OPENING KICK:
    •    Cleveland State returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 24) when the Vikings travel to Oakland for its first Horizon League road match of the season.
    •    Kickoff is slated for 7:00 pm at Oakland Soccer Field.
    •    The Vikings are 3-6 overall and 0-1 in the League after dropping a 1-0 match to Valparaiso in the League opener on Friday.
    •    Oakland is 4-5-1 overall and 1-0 in the Horizon League, earning a 3-0 win at Youngstown State to opener the conference slate last Friday.
    •    Oakland holds a 3-0-1 lead in the all-time series with CSU, including a 1-0 win over the Vikings at Krenzler Field last year.

RECAPPING LAST WEEK:
    •    The Vikings dropped their Horizon League opener on Friday (Sept. 16), falling 1-0 to Valparaiso at Krenzler Field.
    •    CSU had several good scoring chances, including one in the final two minutes when Maren Melnick's shot from 20-yards out hit the crossbar.
    •    Dani Sowinski and K.K. Smith also had chances in the first half, but their shots were just wide of the near post.
    •    Jamie Daniels made nine saves in goal for the Vikings.

FREE KICKS:
    •    All three of CSU's wins this year have been shutout victories. The Vikings own 2-0 wins at Canisius and Niagara and a 1-0 victory vs. St. Bonaventure.
    •    Freshman Aliani Lorenzo and senior Kaila Sargema are tied for eighth in the Horizon League with three goals.
    •    Lorenzo is among the League leaders in goals (3) and points (7) despite missing the last three matches due to injury.
    •    Sargema ranks third in school history in goals (15) and points (34). She is four goals shy of tying Natalie Daniels (2008-11) for second place on the all-time goals list and 19 points behind Vickie Havas (2012-15) for second place.
    •    Junior Jamie Daniels is tied for the Horizon League with three shutouts this season and ranks third in school history with eight career shutouts.
    •    Daniels is second in the League with 42 saves and has made at least six saves in four of the nine matches, including in three straight.
    •    Junior Katie Bainbridge enters the weekend with seven career assists, tied for sixth in school history. She is three assists shy of becoming the fifth player in program history with 10 career assists.
    •    Daniels, Toni Dickson and Sargema are the only players who have started all eight matches for the Vikings this year.

UP NEXT:
    •    CSU returns home to host Wright State in a League match on Wednesday (Sept. 28) at 7:00 pm at Krenzler Field to begin a three-match homestand.
    •    The Vikings also host Northern Kentucky on Saturday (Oct. 1) at 4:00 pm. It will be a doubleheader with the CSU men hosting Green Bay at 7:00 pm.
