AVON, Ind. - Cleveland State shot a final round 333, taking 14 shots off its first round score, and moved up two spots to finish fourth of six teams at the Butler Spring Invitational. The 36 hole event was played at the par-72, 5,930-yard Prestwick C.C.
CSU's final round 333 was the second lowest score of the day, topped only by Butler's 323.
Butler won the event with a two-day total of 639 and was followed by Evansville (671), Eastern Washington (674), Cleveland State (680), Valparaiso (683) and IUPUI (700).
"I was proud of the way this group battled back today to post a better number than the first round," head coach Steve Weir said. "We were able to get a little bit of momentum and hopefully that will carry forward to this weekend's tournament."
Juniors Ariel Sparrow and Lisa Barber both notched top-10 finishes with Sparrow tying for seventh place at 166 (86-80) and Barber tying for 10th place with rounds of 82-85 (167).
Shelly Ford tied for 16th place at 172 (88-84) and Madeline Kaminski was tied for 21st place with a 36 hole total of 175 (91-84). Micaela Cronin was CSU's fifth scorer, tying for 28th place at 180 (91-80) as four of CSU's five golfers lowered their score in the second round.
Playing as an individual, Steff Camarata fired rounds of 89-83 (172) and tied for 16th place, while Colleen Miller finished 30th (89-92 - 181).
The Vikings are back in action on Sunday and Monday when CSU competes at the IPFW Spring Invitational.
