AVON, Ind. - Cleveland State is in sixth place after the first round of the Butler Spring Invitational with an opening round 347. The 36 hole event is being played at the par-72, 5,930-yard Prestwick C.C.
"We struggled to get anything going today," head coach Steve Weir said. "We had a fairly long layoff from our last tournament down in Florida so hopefully we were able to knock some of the rust off today and come out with a better round tomorrow."
Lisa Barber is tied for eighth place overall after a first round 82, while Ariel Sparrow is tied for 18th place after carding an opening round 86.
Shelly Ford is in 24th place at 88, while Madeline Kaminski and Micaela Cronin are tied for 28th after 91's.
Playing as individuals, Steff Camarata and Colleen Miller are tied for 25th place after the duo both shot 89.
Cathy Doyle of Evansville is the clubhouse leader after a 75, while host Butler leads the six team field at 316. Evansville is 18 shots back at 334 and is followed by Valparaiso just one shot back.
The final round of the event will be played on Tuesday.
