Cleveland State Women’s Golf Finishes Runner-Up at Roseann Schwartz Invitational

Boardman, OH-The Cleveland State women's golf team finished strong in the final round of the Roseann Schwartz Invitational at Mill Creek Golf Course. The Vikings posted a 9-over par 297, their second lowest single round score of the season, and a six-shot improvement from yesterday's opening round. 

The tournament came down to the final hole, as host Youngstown State, who trailed by five shots entering the final round, posted a near flawless 3-over par 291 to finish at 23-over par for the tournament. Cleveland State had an opportunity to tie or win the tournament outright on the final hole, but the Vikings ultimately finished one shot back at 24-over par. 

Multiple student-athletes posted top-5 individual finishes. Kaitlin Kormuth posted her first career top-5, in just her second collegiate event, coming in at 3-over through 36 holes and in fourth place. Kormuth recorded two birdies in her final round, finishing with a 3-over 75. Kormuth led the field with 27 pars over two rounds. She also led the field in par-4 scoring, finishing at even par for the tournament.

Mandie Ruminski was right behind, finishing in fifth place at 5-over par. Ruminski posted the low round of the tournament for the Vikings finishing with a 1-under 71 in the second round. She started slowly but caught fire midway through her round with an eagle on the par-5 ninth. It was her second eagle of the tournament, and she was the only player in the field to finish with multiple eagles. She posted a strong finish to the round, carding three birdies in her final five holes to close with a 2-under 34 on the back nine. 

Lola Barnett also posted a strong finish in her second collegiate start. She carded a 3-over 75 to finish at 8-over par for the tournament and tied for 11th place. Barnett recorded three birdies over her final 18 holes.

Olivia Swain rounded out the group of four Vikings who finished in the top-15 of the standings. Swain finished tied for 14th at 9-over for the tournament. She posted a 5-over 77 in the second round which included two birdies.

Brynna Mardis finished tied for 23rd at 13-over for the tournament. She closed with a 4-over 76 which included two birdies and an eagle. The eagle came on her final hole of the tournament as she curled in a putt from above the hole to finish her round in style.

Abby Blackburn finished tied for 43rd at 26-over par and Kaylin Kline finished tied for 47th at 29-over. Both played as individuals.

Cleveland State competes next at the Shirley Spork Invitational hosted by Eastern Michigan, scheduled for October 2-3.
