Boardman, OH-The Cleveland State women's golf team posted a strong showing in the opening round of the Roseann Schwartz Invitational at Mill Creek Golf Course in Boardman, Ohio. The Vikings posted a 15-over par 303 and sit tied for first place with Indiana State. The Vikings and Sycamores are three shots clear of third place Bucknell. 

Freshman Kaitlin Kormuth led the way for the Vikings, carding a new season-low score with an even par 72. Kormuth is in second place, two shots back of Bucknell's Sofia Nogalo who leads the tournament after posting a 2-under par 70. 

Kormuth played steady golf all day. After a bogey on the second hole, she rebounded with six straight pars followed by a birdie on the ninth hole to finish at even par 36 on the front nine. She then reeled off nine consecutive pars on the back nine to finish at even par for the day. Kormuth racked up 16 pars on the day, the most in the field and three clear of the second-highest total. Cleveland State led the field with 53 total pars in the first round. 

Olivia Swain is tied for 10th at 4-over par after posting a 76 in the opening round. She recorded two birdies in a three-hole stretch on holes 7-9 to finish with a 1-over 37 on the front nine. 

Freshman Lola Barnett is close behind, sitting tied for 14th after a 5-over par 77. Barnett recorded two birdies on the day, one on each nine. 

Mandie Ruminski is tied for 17th after a 6-over 78. Ruminski recorded two birdies on the day as well as an eagle on the par-5 7th hole, leading to a 1-under 35 on the front nine. Ruminski was the only player in the field to card an eagle in the opening round. 

Kaylin Kline carded an 87 and Abby Blackburn finished with an 88, with both playing as individuals. Kline is 46th and Blackburn is tied for 47th

Round 2 is scheduled for tomorrow morning with tee times beginning just prior to 9:00 a.m. The Vikings will be off in the back half of the field with tee times starting at approximately 11:00 a.m. Live scoring is available on Golfstat throughout the tournament.
