Coffman Claims Horizon League Individual Crown, Cleveland State Women’s Golf Third at Horizon League Championship

Howey in the Hills, FL-Sabrina Coffman is the 2023 Horizon League Women's Golf Individual Champion after posting a final round 73 to finish at 4-over par for the tournament. This marks the first Horizon League individual championship in the history of the Cleveland State women's golf program.

Coffman won by three strokes over Youngstown State's Puthita Khuanrudee and claimed her second tournament victory of the season. Lexi Knight joined Coffman in finishing inside the top-10 as the Vikings finished in third place overall with a 64-over par team total.

Coffman started the day with a two-shot lead and expanded it to three with a birdie at the fifth hole. She made the turn in 3-over 38 and was tied for the lead after three straight bogeys on holes seven through nine.

She rebounded nicely on the back with a birdie on the tenth hole, sticking her wedge shot to close range and converting the putt. She followed that with two more birdies at the 12th and 14th to widen her lead coming down the stretch. After solid pars on the 16th and 17th she came to the final hole with a four-shot cushion. She putted out for a closing bogey and was embraced by her teammates as she celebrated the victory.

For the week, Coffman led the field in scoring average on the par-4's (4.17), finished tied for second on the par-5's (4.83), and co-led the field in birdies with eight total.

Knight finished in the top-10 in her final tournament at Cleveland State. She finished with a 4-over 76 on the final day for a ninth-place finish at 14-over for the tournament. Knight carded three birdies including two in a row on 14 and 15 coming down the stretch.

Olivia Swain and Mandie Ruminski each finished tied for 20th at 23-over par. Ruminski carded a 5-over 77 in the final round, improving on her score in every round. She made three birdies in her final 18 holes. Swain posted a 6-over 78 which was her lowest score of the week.

Brynna Mardis finished in a tie for 31st place at 35-over par with a 6-over 78 in the final round. Mardis made two birdies on the day in carding her lowest round of the week.

With the victory, Coffman will earn an automatic bid to NCAA Regionals scheduled for May 8th to 10th. Coffman will compete at one of six regional sites for an opportunity to advance to the National Championship Tournament in late May.

Coffman will learn her regional destination tomorrow as part of the NCAA Selection Show. The show will be broadcast live on Golf Channel starting at 1:00 p.m. EST.
