Cleveland State Golf Wraps Up Day 1 at Dayton Flyer Invitational

Kettering, OH-The Cleveland State Golf teams competed in cold and windy conditions on Day 1 of the Dayton Flyer Invitational at NCR Country Club. The women played 18 holes and sit in 5th place in the team race after a 43-over par 323.

The men were scheduled to play 36 holes on Day 1, but round two was cut short due to darkness. The Vikings shot a 15-over par 299 in round one, and are currently 19 over in round two. The team total of 34-over par is currently tied for seventh place. Most players have about three holes left to complete in the second round when play resumes tomorrow.

Mandie Ruminski led the way for the Viking women in the opening round. She is currently tied for ninth place after an 8-over 78. Ruminski birdied the opening hole on NCR's North Course and had a steady back nine, finishing with six pars and three bogeys for a 38. Sabrina Coffman shot 10-over 80 in the first round, which is tied for 15th. Coffman also had a solid back nine, closing with a birdie on the 18th hole to finish with a 37.

On the men's side, Andrew Kaye is currently tied for 15th at 6 over par. Kaye shot 3-over 74 in the first round, and is currently +3 with three holes remaining in his second round. Kaye made three birdies on the day. Brody Simms is one shot back at 7 over, currently tied for 20th. Simms shot the low round for the Vikings in round one, a 2-over 73, which included three birdies. He has since added another and currently sits at 5 over with three holes left in his second round.

For the women, other competitors include: Lexi Knight(T-21, +11), Olivia Swain(T-34, +14), Brynna Mardis(59th, +22). Abby Blackburn, competing as an individual, is in 61st place at +25.

For the men: Gunnar McCollins(T-43, +12), David Laib(T-43, +12), and Jack Hanus(T-60, +14). Alex Anderson(T-35, +10) and Mason Frazier(80th, +23) competed as individuals.

The restart of round two for the men will begin at 11 a.m. tomorrow, and the women will begin their second round at noon. Follow along on Golfstat for updates and live scoring for both teams throughout the day tomorrow.
