PROSPECT, Ky. – The Cleveland State women's golf program captured its first victory in over four years as the Vikings placed three student-athletes in the top-eight to seal the Nevel Meade Collegiate title at the Nevel Meade Golf Club on Tuesday.
Madison Butler (+10 – 76, 75, 75) and Meg Rossouw (+11 – 75, 76, 76) paced the group as the two took third and fourth, respectively, while Sabrina Coffman (+14 – 82, 70, 78) was right behind in a tie for eighth overall.
Butler played three steady and consistent rounds of golf as she led the entire tournament with 37 pars. Rossouw recorded eight birdies, good for a tie for fifth at the tourney, while Coffman followed closely in a tie for eighth with seven birdies of her own.
Olivia Swain (+23 – 78, 83, 78) and Lexi Knight (+27 – 80, 81, 82) rounded out the Viking attack as the two took 42nd and a tie for 51st. Swain totaled seven birdies over the three rounds, good for a tie for eighth overall in the category. Knight was tied for 17th with her 30 holes of par.
Mandie Ruminski (+21 – 79, 76, 82) also competed as an individual as she posted a tied for 29th finish. She also tied for third overall in the entire tournament with nine birdies.
The victory was the Vikings first tournament win since the group captured the Horizon League Championship back on April 25, 2017.
"I'm really proud of this group," head women's golf coach Ryan Williams said. "It was a great team win. We continue to learn and grow as a team and today we executed. They showed toughness and resilience, everything it takes to win a golf tournament."
Cleveland State will get a short bit of rest before returning with Eastern Kentucky's Colonel Classic, set for Monday, April 4 and Tuesday, April 5 at the University Club of Arlington.
