PROSPECT, Ky. – The Cleveland State women's golf program placed three student-athletes in the top-eight and is tied for the team lead of its Nevel Meade Collegiate after the opening two rounds of the tournament at the Nevel Meade Golf Club on Monday.
Meg Rossouw (+7 - 76, 75) and Madison Butler (+7 – 75, 76) led the way for the Vikes in a tie for fifth overall while Sabrina Coffman (+8 – 82, 70) was right behind in a tie for eighth.
Rossouw recorded five birdies, tied for 10th-most so far at the tournament. She also added 20 holes of par on the day. Butler played back-to-back steady rounds as she led the field with 26 pars.
Coffman's second-round 2-under, 70 tied for the lowest round of the tournament as she roared into eighth place after an opening-round 10-over. She finished tied for third with six birdies.
Lexi Knight (+17 – 80, 81) and Olivia Swain (+17 – 78, 83) rounded things out in a tie for 46th, respectively.
Mandie Ruminski (+11 – 79, 76) also posted a tied for 18th performance as an individual.
Cleveland State is tied with Horizon League foe Youngstown State at 35-over. It is already a great showing for a Vikings program that is playing in just its second competition and first tournament of the Spring season.
"I was really happy with how the team played and hung tough today," head women's golf coach Ryan Williams said. "It was a windy day and it played tough out here. We are happy with the results but I am extremely happy with the effort and the attitude out there today."
The third and final round of the Nevel Meade Collegiate will tee-off on Tuesday (March 22) at 9 AM ET. Fans can follow along with the live results of the tournament here.
