DAY ONE RECAP

YPSILANTI, Mich. -- Junior Ashley Knight shot rounds of 75-73 and is tied for seventh place overall after the opening 36 holes of the Shirley Spork Invitational on Monday at the Eagle Crest Golf Club.

Knight opened the tournament with a 75 over her opening 18 holes, which included birdies on the 16th and 17th holes. She came back and posted a one-over par 73 on her second 18 as she once again birdied the 16th hole, but added birdies on the eighth and 13th holes.

Led by Knight, Cleveland State sits in seventh place in the team standings with a 36-hole score of 612. The Vikings are currently just one shot behind Western Michigan and Central Michigan who are tied for fifth at 611 and trail Green Bay by just five strokes heading into Tuesday's final round.

Junior Madison Butler opened with a two-over par 74 as she posted birdies on the 10th and 17th holes of play. She posted a 79 over her second 18 holes and is tied for 25th position overall.

Grace Zimmerman placed third for the Vikings after shooting rounds of 77-77 on day one of the tournament. Zimmerman had three birdies on her opening 18 holes and finished the day with five total birdies.

After posting an opening-round 85, sophomore Meg Rossouw bounced back nicely to shoot a 77 over her final 18 holes of competition. Her five-over par 77 included birdies on the 7th and 17th holes and she is tied for 54th overall.

Freshman Lexi Knight is tied for 69th place overall after shooting 80-90 to open her tournament. Her opening-round 80 included two birdies and 10 pars.

The tournament will conclude on Tuesday (Oct. 1) with 18 holes beginning at 9 a.m. on the Eagle Crest Golf Club.
