TOURNAMENT RECAP

YORKTOWN, Ind. -- Sophomore Grace Zimmerman shot a career-best round of 73 leading Cleveland State on the final day of the Cardinal Classic at The Players Club.

Zimmerman, who topped her previous career-best round of 75, started on the back nine. She birdied her third hole of the day, the par-5, 15th hole, to move to one-under par and then reeled off 11 consecutive pars before posting a bogey on the ninth hole to slide back to even par. Zimmerman parred the 10th hole, bogeyed the 11th hole and finished with a par on the 12th hole to close out her round.

Led by Zimmerman, Cleveland State shaved 15 strokes off of its team score from the opening day as the Vikings posted back-to-back rounds of 318-318 on day one of the tournament. The Vikings team score of 303 marked their best round of the fall season and led to a ninth-place finish in the team standings. Host Ball State won the team title with a 54-hole score of 899.

Ashley Knight was the Vikings highest finisher for the tournament as she shot 74-80-74 to place in a tie for 12th overall with a score of 228. Marion DeBove of IUPUI was the tournament medalist as she posted rounds of 71-68-71 to finish first by two strokes.

Zimmerman finished second for the Vikings as her 73 gave her a total of 232 for the tournament and she tied for 24th place in the standings.

Madison Butler bounced back to shoot a three-over par 75 over her final 18 holes of play to finish tied for 36th overall with a score of 237.

Meg Rossouw and Averi Hanna rounded out the Vikings group. Rossouw finished tied for 56th after shooting 88-80-81 and Hanna was tied for 59th with rounds of 81-88-82.

Cleveland State will return to action on Sept. 23-24 at the Phoenix Invitational hosted by Elon.
