YORKTOWN, Ind. – Sophomores Amanda Baker and Madison Butler both tied their career-low rounds Tuesday to help the Cleveland State University women's golf team move up and finish eighth of 16 teams at the Cardinal Classic.
CSU shot a final-round 300, the fifth-lowest round in school history, to finish the tournament at +54 (918). The event was held at The Players Club, a 6,204-yard par-72.
Butler shot an even-par 72 Tuesday, posting that score for the second time in as many tournaments and the third time in her young career. She birdied two of the first four holes and was never over par at any point in the round. The only blemishes on her card were three bogeys. She finished the event in a tie for 11th at +8 (224).
Baker bounced back in a big way from Monday's play by posting +2 (74) in the final round. It tied her career low round set last year at Eastern Michigan's event and was her lowest in six competitive rounds at The Players Club. After suffering a double bogey on her second hole, Baker remained poised and played the remaining 16 holes in even par, with two birdies, two bogeys and 12 pars. She finished with a three-day total of 238.
Junior Kaylee Neumeister and sophomore Ashley Knight both shot +5 (77) to conclude the event.
Neumeister made a team-high four birdies Tuesday, including back-to-back on the par-4 first and par-5 second, to conclude the event at +14 (230). Knight's score was her best round of the event, as she dropped a shot after each round. She finished at +18 (234).
Freshman Grace Zimmerman finished at +9 (81) Tuesday and completed the tournament with 237 strokes.
Neumeister tied for third in the field in par-5 scoring (4.67) while Butler finished tied for sixth in par-4 scoring (4.08).
Cleveland State will be right back in action next week as it competes at the Golden Grizzly Invitational Sept. 24-25.
