Women's Golf Finshes Third at Horizon League Championship

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The Cleveland State women's golf team finished in third place at the Horizon League Championship that concluded on Tuesday at the par-73, 6,171-yard Las Colinas Course at Mission Inn Resort.

After opening the tournament with a 334 on Sunday, the Vikings posted a 315 on Monday and a 316 in today's final round.

Freshman Madison Butler led the Vikings as she tied for sixth place with a 232 total with rounds of 81-76-75. Butler was named to the All-Horizon League second team this year.

Sophomore Kaylee Neumeister shot 81-77-73 (241) to tie for 11th place, while senior Sophie Kelner tied for 20th place with rounds of 89-79-72 (250).

Freshman Ashley Knight posted her best round of the tournament today with a final round 76 and wound up tied for 22nd place overall (85-90-76 - 251) and senior Emily Turski tied for 28th place at 254 (87-83-84).

IUPUI won the team title with a 937 total, five shots ahead of Oakland. The Vikings, who began the day in fourth place, moved past UIC to finish third at 965, while UIC was fourth at 973. Green Bay finished fifth at 985 and was followed by Northern Kentucky (986), Youngstown State (1,002) and Detroit Mercy (1,008).

CSU concludes the year with a school record scoring average of 316.0, bettering last year's old mark by more than a stroke. The Vikings also posted three top-three finishes this year, including a pair of runner-up finishes, and shot a school record round of 292 at the Ball State Invitational.
