CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's golf team, which captured the first League title in school history on Tuesday, has been selected to play in the NCAA Columbus Regional Championship.
The Regional will be played on the Scarlet Course at The Ohio State University Golf Club in Columbus, Ohio from May 8-10.
CSU captured the Horizon League's automatic bid to the NCAA regionals by claiming the League title at Mission Inn Resort on Tuesday. After an opening round 319 that put CSU in fourth place, the Vikings shot a tournament-low round of 302 in the second round to move into first place.
A final round 307 helped CSU top Youngstown State by three shots in the final standings.
The Vikings are one of 18 teams at the Columbus regional, along with Florida, Florida State, South Carolina, Arkansas, Colorado, Texas A&M, Purdue, Ohio State, Michigan, San Jose State, Houston, Louisville, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Old Dominion, Delaware and Missouri State.
The top six teams (out of 18 in each of four regions) after three rounds and 54 holes of play will advance to the NCAA Championship Finals at the Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill., May 19-24.
The other three NCAA Regional Championships will be contested at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga. (hosted by Georgia), at the Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas (hosted by Texas Tech ) and at the University of New Mexico Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M. (hosted by New Mexico).
