Women's Golf in Third Place After First Round of Horizon League Championship

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The Cleveland State women's golf team is in third place after the opening round of the 2016 Horizon League Championship that is being played at the par-72, 6,018-yard Mission Inn Resort.

CSU carded a first round 323 and trails first place Oakland (311) and second place Northern Kentucky (314) after the first day. Valparaiso is in fourth place at 325, while Detroit (328), UIC and Youngstown State (330) and Green Bay (345) round out the field.

Senior Allyson Hackman, who was named first team all-league for the third straight year last night, is tied for fourth place after an opening round 77. She shot a three-over 38 on the front nine and a two-over 39 on the inward nine, making one birdie on each side.

Senior Madison Lomas made par on five of the first six holes and birdie on the fifth hole en route to a front-nine 38. She finished with an 80 and is tied for 11th place. Freshman Rayna Oosterhuis is tied for 14th place after an 81, while Sophie Kelner shot 85 and is tied for 26th place.

Emily Turski is tied for 33rd after a first round 87.

Northern Kentucky's Macy Wright shot a 73 and is the first round leader, while Emily Dixon of Youngstown State and Fiona Schmidt of Oakland are tied for second place after rounds of 75.

The second round of the League championship will be played on Saturday (April 23) with the first tee time at 7:30 am. CSU will play in the final grouping with Oakland and Northern Kentucky.
