Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Notches 83-50 Victory Over Wright State In #HLWBB Semifinals

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Cleveland State women's basketball team continued play in the 2024 Horizon League Tournament Monday, picking up a convincing 83-50 victory over Wright State in semifinal action. With the win, the Vikings earn a spot in Tuesday's Championship game, and improve to 29-4 overall this year.

Game Stats
-Five Vikings finished the game with double-figure points, led by Mickayla Perdue with 18. Colbi Maples added 14, Brooklynn Fort-Davis posted 12, Sara Guerreiro added 11 and Jordana Reisma chipped in 10.
-Jordana Reisma grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds, as the Vikings held a 45-27 advantage in rebounding on the game.
-As a team, the Vikings shot 48-percent from the floor for the game, including a .647 clip during the first quarter.
-The Vikings combined for 19 assists, including six from Sara Guerreiro and five from Carmen Villalobos.
-The Cleveland State defense recorded 14 steals, forcing Wright State into 18 turnovers - turning these miscues into 24 points.

Game Notes
-With 14 points on the game, Colbi Maples eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for her career, becoming the second Viking to reach the 1,000-point milestone this season.
-Jordana Reisma recorded her fifth double-double of the year after finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds on the day.
-Cleveland State's 14 steals against Wright State marked the 14th time this season that the Vikings have tallied double-digit steals.
-With Monday's semifinal win, the Vikings have advanced to their fifth Horizon League Championship game.

The Game
The Vikings were able to get out to a quick start to begin the game, as a Mickayla Perdue three-pointer  on the opening possession followed by a Perdue layup on a Carmen Villalobos steal gave Cleveland State a 5-0 lead less than one minute into the contest.

After trading baskets over the next few plays, the Vikings were able to distance themselves with a pair of three-pointers from Sara Guerreiro and Shadiya Thomas, putting Cleveland State up 12-6 midway through the first quarter. The Vikings were then able to gain a double-digit lead at 17-6 on a pair of Jordana Reisma free throws, and would go on to hold a double-digit lead throughout the rest of the frame.

Cleveland State carried its momentum into the second quarter then, as a 10-0 run to start the frame, gave the Vikings a 40-15 edge on a Perdue layup with 7:58 left on the clock. The Vikings were able to withstand a Wright State run late in the second quarter, with a 6-2 run over the final 2:27 sending Cleveland State into the halftime break with a 52-32 advantage.

The Vikings were able to extend their advantage midway through the third quarter then, as a 13-0 run put the Vikings up by 30+ at 70-37. Cleveland State then closed the frame with seven straight points, with a Brooklynn Fort-Davis jumper give the Vikings a 77-39 lead heading into the final 10 minutes of play.

Cleveland State held its advantage for the final 10 minutes then, coming away with the 83-50 victory to advance to Tuesday's #HLWBB Championship game.
