Maples, Perdue, Villalobos & Kielsmeier Earn Major Horizon League Honors

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - After posting a program-record 18-2 Horizon League regular season record and capturing the program's first-ever #HLWBB Regular Season title, the Cleveland State women's basketball team was honored with multiple postseason accolades from the league Monday, with Colbi Maples, Mickayla Perdue, Carmen Villalobos, and Chris Kielsmeier all earning postseason awards.

Maples was named the 2024 Horizon League Player of the Year, First Team and All-Defensive Team honoree, Perdue was named the 2024 Horizon League Newcomer of the Year and First Team honoree, Villalobos was named the 2024 Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year and All-Defensive Team honoree, while Kielsmeier was named the 2024 Horizon League Coach of the Year.

This marks just the fourth time in program history that a Viking has claimed Player of the Year honors - and the second in as many years - while Villalobos is the fifth Viking to be named Defensive Player of the Year, and Kielsmeier is earning Coach of the Year accolades for the first time in program history.

COLBI MAPLES | JR | PLAYER OF THE YEAR & FIRST TEAM
Maples picked up Player of the Year honors after averaging 16.2 points, 4.3 assists and 1.9 steals per game - ranking in the top-five among league players in all three categories. A two-time #HLWBB Player of the Week, Maples has tallied nine 20-point performances this season, and is one of three league players with 500+ points on the year.

Defensively, Maples is tied for fourth among league players averaging 1.9 steals per game, and has combined for 59 total takeaways on the year. In addition, Maples ranks third among league players with a 1.3 assist/turnover ratio.

Maples is part of a Viking offense that leads the Horizon League averaging 74.9 points per game on a .465 field goal percentage. This season, Cleveland State has recorded 70+ points 24 times, combining for over 2,300 points through 31 games.

MICKAYLA PERDUE | SR | NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR & FIRST TEAM
Perdue was named the Newcomer of the Year after averaging a team-best 17.0 points per game in her first season at Cleveland State. So far this year, Perdue has recorded 13 20-point games, which ranks second among league players. Ten of Perdue's 20-point performances have come against league opponents, including a season-high 30 points against Green Bay.

On the year, Perdue ranks second among league players with 527 total points, while she also ranks in the top-five with a .475 field goal percentage. Through the first 31 games, Perdue has a league-high 70 three-pointers, including a league-best 7-for-8 performance against Green Bay.

Perdue - a two-time #HLWBB Player of the Week - is part of a Viking offense that leads the league with a .365 field goal percentage from three-point range, while she recorded the 1,000th point of her career with a 24-point effort against Detroit Mercy.

CARMEN VILLALOBOS | 5TH YR | DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR & ALL-DEFENSIVE TEAM
Villalobos earned Defensive Player of the Year honors after leading the Horizon League with 66 total steals on the year, averaging 2.1 steals per game. Through the first 31 games of the season, Villalobos has recorded multiple steals 20 times, including a season-high five against Youngstown State and Wright State.

In addition, Villalobos leads the Vikings averaging 6.7 rebounds per game, including 154 defensive boards to rank fourth among league players. For her career, Villalobos is closing in on 700 career boards.

Villalobos leads a Viking defense that has held its opponents to a league-best .380 field goal percentage, while Cleveland State also ranks second among league teams in steals (9.45) and rebounds (37.5).

CHRIS KIELSMEIER | COACH OF THE YEAR
Kielsmeier has led the Vikings to a 27-4 record on the season, including a program-record 18-2 mark in Horizon League play. With last Saturday's 81-69 victory over Northern Kentucky, Kielsmeier and the Vikings captured the program's first-ever #HLWBB Regular Season title.

In his sixth season at Cleveland State, Kielsmeier has guided the Vikings to four 20-win campaigns, including a program record 30 wins last season. Earlier this year, Kielsmeier recorded his 100th victory at Cleveland State with a 95-41 decision against Chicago State.
