Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Comes Away With 56-53 Victory At Youngstown State

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's basketball team closed out an undefeated February on Tuesday, picking up a 56-53 victory at Youngstown State. With the win, the Vikings improve to 26-4 overall this season and 17-2 in Horizon League play.

Game Stats
-Three Vikings finished the game in double-figure points led by Colbi Maples with 18. Mickayla Perdue added 14 points, while Sara Guerreiro chipped in 12.
-The Vikings held a 44-35 edge in rebounding on the game, including 11 boards each from Jordana Reisma and Faith Burch.
-Cleveland State finished with seven steals on the game, including two each from Colbi Maples, Sara Guerreiro and Carmen Villalobos.

Game Notes
-With 11 rebounds on the game, Faith Burch tallied double-digit boards for the third time out of the last four games.
-Jordana Reisma grabbed double-digit rebounds for the sixth time this season after posting 11 at YSU.
-With Tuesday's win, the Vikings finished the month of February with a perfect 7-0 record.

The Game
After heading into the halftime break leading by just two at 21-19, the Vikings were able to open the third quarter with a 6-2 run, gaining a 27-21 edge on a Colbi Maples layup less than two minutes into the frame. The two teams then traded baskets throughout the remainder of the frame, with Youngstown State sinking a half-court shot at the buzzer to gain a 39-38 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Cleveland State quickly responded at the start of the fourth quarter then, with a Sara Guerreiro three-pointer regaining a 41-39 edge for the Vikings. Although the Penguins tied the score at 41-41 on their ensuing possession, a Maples and-one play gave the advantage back to the Vikings at 44-41 with 7:12 left on the clock.

The Vikings then used a 7-0 run midway through the frame to extend their lead to 51-43 on a Mickayla Perdue three-pointer, but the Penguins once again worked their way back into the contest, closing the gap to just one point at 52-51 with just under three minutes left in regulation.

A pair of Perdue free throws followed by a Maples layup at the 1:05 mark put the Vikings up by five at 56-51, before YSU posted the final basket of the game to put the final score at 56-53.
