Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Cruises To 79-40 Victory At RMU

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - The Cleveland State women's basketball team continued its current roadswing Saturday, picking up a 79-40 victory at RMU. With the win, the Vikings are now 25-4 on the year, and 16-2 in Horizon League play.

Game Stats
-Four Vikings finished the game in double-figure points, paced by Colbi Maples with 22. Mickayla Perdue added 16 points, Sara Guerreiro chipped in 11 and Jordana Reisma tallied 10.
-Cleveland State held a 46-27 edge in rebounding on the game, including seven boards each from Sara Guerreiro, Carmen Villalobos, and Grace Ellis.
-The Vikings shot 52-percent from the floor (27-for-51), including a .667 clip during the first quarter (8-for-12).
-Cleveland State combined for 15 assists on the day, including four from Mickayla Perdue.
-The Viking defense forced RMU into 14 turnovers, turning these miscues into 19 points.

Game Notes
-Colbi Maples tallied her ninth 20-point game of the season after finishing with 22 against RMU.
-With a blocked shot against RMU, Jordana Reisma moved into 10th place by herself in the CSU Career Record Book with 73 blocks.
-With two steals on the game, Carmen Villalobos extended her #HLWBB lead with 64 total steals on the year.
-This marked the second straight game and 12th game on the season that Cleveland State has shot 50-percent or better from the field.

The Game
Once again the Vikings were able to jump out to a quick start, gaining a 12-6 lead midway through the first quarter following a three-pointer from Mickayla Perdue and a Faith Burch layup. Although the two teams would trade baskets over the next few possessions, a pair of Brooklynn Fort-Davis free throws at the 2:55 mark opened an 11-1 scoring run for the Vikings over the final three minutes of the frame, gaining a 25-11 edge after the first 10 minutes of play.

Cleveland State then held the Colonials scoreless during the second quarter, extending its lead to 41-11 heading into the halftime break following a 16-point frame.

Back-to-back layups from Maples and Sara Guerreiro to begin the third quarter extended Cleveland State's lead to 45-11, before both teams traded baskets once again throughout the middle part of the frame.

Late in the quarter, a Guerreiro layup and a Perdue three-pointer put the Vikings up 57-26, while a Maples layup extended the Cleveland State lead to 59-26 heading into the final 10 minutes of play.

The Vikings carried their momentum into the fourth quarter then, as a 5-0 run to open the frame gave the Vikings a convincing 64-28 lead with 8:43 left to play.

Cleveland State then held a sizable edge for the remainder of the contest, including a 7-3 run to close the game - with all seven points coming from Paulina Hernandez.
