Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Notches 64-51 Victory Over Milwaukee

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's basketball team hosted its annual Cancer Awareness Day Saturday, picking up a 64-51 victory over Milwaukee. With the win, the Vikings are now 23-4 on the season and 14-2 in Horizon League play.

Game Stats
-Four Vikings finished the game with double-figure points, led by Colbi Maples with 15. Jordana Reisma and Sara Guerreiro both added 12 points, while Faith Burch chipped in 10.
-Sara Guerreiro grabbed a team-best 12 rebounds, while the Vikings held a 40-31 advantage in rebounding.
-The Vikings recorded 15 assists on the day, including six from Colbi Maples.
-Cleveland State's defense recorded 13 steals, forcing Milwaukee into 16 turnovers which they turned into 18 points.

Game Notes
-Sara Guerreiro tallied her second double-double of the season after finishing with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
-Faith Burch tallied double-digit points for just the second time this season after finishing with 10 against Milwaukee.
-Cleveland State remained perfect at home this season, improving to 15-0 on the year when playing at home.
-With 13 steals on the game, the Viking defense grabbed double-digit steals for the 13th time this season.

The Game
Cleveland State was able to get out to a quick start during the opening quarter, as a 12-0 run capped off by a Sara Guerreiro jumper at the 1:41 mark gave the Vikings a double-digit lead at 16-5. Milwaukee responded with a pair of baskets to close out the frame, putting the score at 16-9 Cleveland State after the first 10 minutes of action.

During the opening quarter the Viking defense recorded five steals and two blocked shots, holding the Panthers to a 4-for-12 performance.

Cleveland State carried its momentum into the second quarter then, as an 8-4 run to start the frame kept the Viking lead at double-digits, with a Guerreiro jumper four minutes into the quarter put the score at 24-13 CSU. Although Milwaukee was able to trim the lead to single digits on their next possession, a Faith Burch jumper at the 5:31 mark put Cleveland State up 26-15.

The Vikings were able to close out the first half on a 10-2 run, with a Shadiya Thomas three-pointer in the final seconds putting the score at 38-21 heading into the halftime break.

Cleveland State once again got out to a quick start to begin the third quarter, as a 7-0 run to start the frame put the Vikings up 45-21 following a Colbi Maples and-one play. Cleveland State went on to hold a sizable lead for the remainder of the quarter then, taking a 51-32 lead into the fourth quarter.

To open the fourth quarter the Vikings went on a 7-2 run, with a Maples three-pointer at the 7:08 mark putting Cleveland State up by 24 points at 58-34. The Vikings then controlled play for the rest of the contest, coming away with the 64-51 victory.
