Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Finishes FGCU Tournament With 69-59 Victory Over Drexel

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Cleveland State women's basketball team closed out its non-league slate Thursday, picking up a 69-59 victory over Drexel to finish the Homewood Suites Classic with a 2-0 record. With Thursday's win, the Vikings also improved to 11-2 overall this season.

-Colbi Maples led the Viking offense with 20 points, while Jordana Reisma added 18 points.
-Jordana Reisma grabbed a team-best nine rebounds, while Carmen Villalobos added seven boards.
-The Vikings shot 44-percent from the field on the game, and recorded 13 assists - with four from Colbi Maples.

-Jordana Reisma tallied a career-high with her 18 points against Drexel.
-With 20 points against Drexel, Colbi Maples notched her fifth 20-point game of the season.
-Cleveland State has now tallied 10+ assists in nine games this season after finishing with 13 on the day.
-Thursday's game marked the third of a five-game roadswing for the Vikings, and the final non-league game of the 2023-24 campaign.

The Game
After trailing 17-15 heading into the second quarter, the Vikings were able to outscore Drexel 20-8 during the frame to take a 10-point lead into the halftime break at 35-25.

The Vikings carried their momentum into the third quarter as back-to-back baskets - including a Mickayla Perdue layup off of a Sara Guerreiro steal - gave Cleveland State a 39-25 advantage just over one minute into the frame. After a Drexel free throw, the Vikings posted another 4-0 scoring run, earning a 43-26 edge following a pair of Colbi Maples free throws.

Cleveland State was then able to hold its double-digit lead over the rest of the frame, taking a 51-39 lead into the fourth and final quarter.

After Drexel was able to trim the CSU lead to single-digits early in the fourth quarter, the Vikings responded with an 8-0 run, regaining a double-digit lead at 64-48 following a Perdue layup midway through the frame.

The two teams then traded baskets over the next few possessions, with Cleveland State holding off another Drexel run to capture the 69-59 victory. With the win, the Vikings finish their trip to Florida with a 2-0 record.
