Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Falls To No. 4 Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Cleveland State women's basketball team had its nine-game win streak snapped Saturday, dropping a 104-75 decision against No. 4 Iowa. With the loss, the Vikings fall to 9-2 overall this season.

Game Stats
-Mickayla Perdue led the Viking offense with 24 points, while Colbi Maples added 18 points, Carmen Villalobos chipped in 13, and Sara Guerreiro tallied 10.
-Cleveland State recorded 12 assists, including six from Colbi Maples, and shot 43-percent from the field.
-The Viking defense notched 11 steals and forced Iowa into 19 turnovers.
-As a team, Cleveland State combined for three blocked shots on the game, including two from Carmen Villalobos.

Game Notes
-The 24 points for Mickayla Perdue marked her second straight 20-point game.
-Cleveland State's 11 steals marked the sixth double-digit steal game of the season.
-This marked the first meeting between Cleveland State and Iowa. 
-Saturday's game marked the first of a five-game roadswing for the Vikings.

The Game
Throughout the opening quarter the Vikings were able to battle with Iowa, holding the game to single digits until late in the frame when Iowa was able to gain a double-digit lead, before a Sara Guerreiro layup over the final minute put the score at 26-18 Iowa after the first 10 minutes of play.

Although Iowa was able to extend their lead to double-digits over the opening minute of the second quarter, a Mickayla Perdue jumper and Carmen Villalobos three-pointer closed the gap to just five points at 28-23. Iowa then used a 10-0 run to regain a double-digit lead at 38-23, before closing out the the second quarter with a 53-36 advantage.

Iowa was then able to control play throughout the second half, closing out the contest with the 104-75 victory.

The Vikings will close out non-league play in Fort Myers, Fla. next week, taking on Southern Miss (December 20) and Drexel (December 21) as part of the Homewood Suites Classic hosted by FGCU.
