Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Picks Up Ninth Straight Win With 71-62 Victory Over Akron

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's basketball team closed out its December home slate Sunday, picking up a 71-62 victory over Akron to extend its current win streak to nine straight games. The Vikings now stand at 9-1 overall this season.

Game Stats
-Mickayla Perdue led the Viking offense with 25 points on 9-for-15 shooting, including a quartet of three-pointers.
-Colbi Maples added 17 points and Jordana Reisma chipped in 10.
-Jordana Reisma grabbed a team-best nine rebounds on the game, while Brooklynn Fort-Davis added six boards.
-The Vikings combined for 15 assists, including seven from Colbi Maples.
-The Cleveland State defense recorded six steals and four blocked shots.

Game Notes
-Sunday's win extended Cleveland State's current win streak to nine straight games.
-Mickayla Perdue tallied her first 20-point game of the season with 25 points against Akron.
-The 15 assists marked the third straight game that the Vikings finished with double-digit assists and sixth on the season.
-With two blocks against the Zips, Jordana Reisma has now recorded at least one block in all but one game this season.

The Game
After taking a slim 34-30 lead into the halftime break, the Vikings were able to extend their advantage with a 6-0 run to start the third quarter - including five points from Mickayla Perdue - gaining a double-digit lead at 40-30 less than two minutes into the frame.

The two teams traded baskets over the next few possessions then, until a Filippa Goula three-pointer followed by a Brooklynn Fort-Davis layup put the Vikings back up by 10 points at 47-37 midway through the quarter.

Cleveland State was able to hold at least a four-point lead throughout the rest of the quarter, with another Goula three-pointer with just seconds left on the clock putting the score at 54-46 heading into the final 10 minutes of play.

Akron was able to chip away at the Cleveland State lead over the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, closing the gap to 55-52 before back-to-back baskets from Perdue and Maples regained a seven-point lead for the Vikings at 59-52 with 6:31 left on the clock.

A mini 4-1 run off of free throws from Maples and Carmen Villalobos extended Cleveland State's lead to double-digits once again at 63-53 late in the frame, while a Perdue three-pointer held the 10-point lead at 66-56 with 3:16 left to play.

Although Akron was once again able to chip away at the Cleveland State lead over the final minutes of the contest, the Vikings were able to pull out the 71-62 victory to remain perfect at home this season.
