Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Extends Win Streak To Eight With 87-56 Win Over Niagara

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's basketball team returned home for a midweek matchup Wednesday, picking up an 87-56 victory over Niagara. With the win, the Vikings have now won eight straight games, standing at 8-1 overall this season.

-Three Vikings finished the game with double-digit points, paced by Sara Guerreiro with 22. Mickayla Perdue added 19 points, while Brooklynn Fort-Davis chipped in 15.
-Sara Guerreiro and Carmen Villalobos both grabbed a team-best eight rebounds, while Jordana Reisma added four boards.
-The Vikings combined for 19 assists on the day, including five from Colbi Maples and four from Filippa Goula.
-Cleveland State shot 54-percent from the field, including an .818 clip during the first quarter.

The Game
The Vikings were able to jump out to a quick start Wednesday night, getting out to a 10-3 lead following back-to-back baskets from Mickayla Perdue and Jordana Reisma, while an 8-0 run extended Cleveland State's lead to 18-3 on a Sara Guerreiro layup off of a Grace Ellis steal late in the frame.

After Cleveland State held a 19-8 advantage heading into the second quarter, the Vikings quickly extended their lead with an 8-0 run to start the frame, gaining a 27-8 lead following a Carmen Villalobos basket. The Vikings then gained a 20-point edge at 32-12 following an Ellis three-pointer, but a late Niagara run trimmed the lead to 12 points with just over two minutes left.

The two teams then traded baskets over the final possessions of the frame, with Cleveland State taking a 42-28 lead into the halftime break.

Cleveland State once again got off to a quick start to open the third quarter, as six straight points from Perdue put the Vikings up 48-28, while a pair of Colbi Maples free throws extended the lead to 22 at 50-28 at the 6:30 mark.

The Vikings were then able to hold the sizable advantage throughout the frame, closing out the quarter on a 7-3 run, holding a 67-44 advantage with just 10 minutes left to play.

The two teams traded baskets to open the fourth quarter, with a Guerreiro layup midway through the frame putting the Vikings up 73-54, before a steal from Perdue and layup from Filippa Goula gave the Vikings a 75-54 lead on the ensuing possession.

Cleveland State extended its scoring run with baskets from Perdue and Guerreiro late in the frame to put the score at 79-54, before closing out the contest by outscoring Niagara 8-2 over the final minutes to come away with the 87-56 victory.
