Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Picks Up Seventh Straight Win With 72-60 Victory At NKU

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Cleveland State women's basketball team extended its current win streak to seven straight games Saturday, picking up a 72-60 victory at Northern Kentucky. With the win, the Vikings now stand at 7-1 overall this season and 2-0 in Horizon League play.

Game Stats
-Colbi Maples led the Viking offense with 23 points, while Mickayla Perdue and Jordana Reisma both added 13 points.
-Carmen Villalobos grabbed a team-best eight rebounds, while Jordana Reisma added five boards.
-The Vikings combined for 12 assists on the day, including four from Mickayla Perdue and three from Colbi Maples and Shadiya Thomas.

Game Notes
-Saturday's win put the Vikings at 2-0 to start #HLWBB play for the third straight season.
-With 23 points against NKU, Colbi Maples tallied her fourth 20-point game of the year.
-Cleveland State shot 51-percent from the floor against NKU, marking the third straight game that the Vikings have shot .500 or better from the field.

The Game
Cleveland State was able to jump out to a quick lead in the opening quarter, as a Colbi Maples three-pointer gave the Vikings a 16-2 start. NKU responded with the a mini 5-0 run, but a pair of Jordana Reisma free throws put the score at 18-7 after the first 10 minutes of action.

Although NKU was able to get on the board first during the second quarter, a Grace Ellis three-pointer on the ensuing CSU possession put Cleveland State up 21-9 less than a minute into the frame. The Vikings then extended their lead midway through the quarter, as back-to-back three-pointers from Maples and Ellis put the score at 31-14.

Cleveland State then went into the halftime break with a 39-18 lead following a Carmen Villalobos offensive rebound and put-back as time was expiring in the second quarter.

The Vikings were able to hold their sizable advantage throughout the third quarter, including extending their lead to 51-31 after a Reisma layup, while a Brooklynn Fort-Davis free throw over the final seconds of the frame gave CSU a 54-35 lead heading into the fourth and final quarter.

Cleveland State then held off a Northern Kentucky run over the opening part of the fourth quarter, regaining a 16-point lead at 63-47 following a Maples layup. The two teams then traded baskets over the final minutes of the contest, with Cleveland State coming away with the 72-60 victory to remain perfect in #HLWBB play.

The Vikings will return to non-league play next week, beginning with a 7:00 p.m. contest against Niagara on Wednesday, December 6 at the Wolstein Center.
