Kielsmeier Notches 100th Win At Cleveland State With 95-41 Victory Over Chicago State

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's basketball team remained perfect at the Holiday Inn Express Cleveland Downtown Viking Invitational Friday, picking up a 95-41 victory over Chicago State. With the win, the Vikings improve to 4-1 on the season.

With today's win over Chicago State, Chris Kielsmeier picked up his 100th victory at Cleveland State.

Game Stats
-Four Vikings finished in double-digits, paced by Destiny Leo with 17. Mickayla Perdue and Paulina Hernandez both recorded 13 points, while Faith Burch ended with 12.
-The Vikings shot 45-percent from the floor, including a .600 clip during the fourth quarter (9-for-15).
-Cleveland State held a 52-33 edge in rebounding, including 12 from Kali Howard and 10 from Faith Burch.
-The Viking defense notched 12 steals and forced Chicago State into 23 turnovers.
-Cleveland State turned the 23 turnovers into 30 points.

Game Notes
-Friday's game marked the second of three games as part of the Holiday Inn Express Cleveland Downtown Viking Invitational.
-This year's Viking Invitational is being played at Woodling Gymnasium, the former home of Viking Basketball.
-Faith Burch tallied the first double-double of her career, finishing with 12 points and 10 rebounds - marking career-highs in both categories.
-Cleveland State tied its season-high with 14 assists on the day.
-The 12 steals marked the second double-digit steal performance of the year.

The Game
Cleveland State opened the contest with a 14-0 run, gaining a double-digit lead on a Destiny Leo layup, before extending its lead with a Brooklynn Fort-Davis layup at the 3:01 mark. The Viking defense held the Cougars off the board during the first 7:51 of the frame, posting eight defensive rebounds, three steals and one blocked shot during this stretch. The Vikings then closed out the first 10 minutes of play with a 19-point lead at 21-2.

Although Chicago State was able to open the second quarter with a free throw, the Vikings responded with a 12-0 run over the next four-minute stretch, gaining a 30-point lead on a Carmen Villalobos layup that put the score at 33-3. Cleveland State added to its run with another 10 straight points, extending the Viking lead to 43-3 on a Faith Burch jumper at the 2:07 mark, before closing out the first half with a 48-9 advantage.

The Vikings were then able to hold a sizable advantage throughout the third quarter, including gaining their largest lead of the contest at 67-16 following a 12-0 run that ended with a Sara Guerreiro jumper at the 3:42 mark. Cleveland State then closed the quarter with a 71-23 advantage.

Cleveland State was able to hold off the Cougars during the fourth quarter then, closing out the game with the 95-41 victory.
