Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Signs Two For Upcoming 2024-25 Campaign

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State women's basketball head coach Chris Kielsmeier has announced the addition of Brenae Jones-Grant (Planfield, New Jersey) and Sarah Hurley (Pelham, Ontario, Canada) for the 2024-25 season.

Both Jones-Grant and Hurley will join the Vikings in the fall of 2024 with four years of eligibility remaining.

"We are very excited to officially welcome Brenae and Sarah into our Viking Family," Kielsmeier said. "In the recruiting process we look for individuals who encompass attributes that fit the Cleveland State standard of excellence, and Brenae and Sarah possess many of these qualities. Both are great young women who will have a seamless transition into our locker room from a culture standpoint, while on the court they both bring size, skill and length to their respective positions."

Jones-Grant spent the first two years of her prep career at Bound Brook High School, before transferring to Immaculate Conception for her junior and senior years. As a four-year varsity starter, Jones-Grant has earned Honorable Mention and First Team All-Conference accolades, while also leading the Skyland Conference in rebounds and blocks as a sophomore.

Through her first three years of high school, Jones-Grant has combined for 645 points, 578 rebounds, 165 steals, and 154 blocked shots.

In 2022 Jones-Grant helped Bound Brook to a Skyland Conference Championship, and followed that up with an Essex County Championship with Immaculate Conception in 2023.

Kielsmeier on Jones-Grant: "Brenae is a dynamic athlete with great athleticism and length. She is a relentless rebounder and someone we feel can be an elite defender. Brenae has great versatility in her game and can score in multiple ways. She comes from one of the best high school programs in New Jersey and has played in some big-time games."

Hurley will join the Vikings following a standout career at Lincoln Prep where she is averaging 13.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.0 steals per game as a captain during her senior season.

In addition, Hurley has played for EYBL Kia Nurse Elite and Team Ontario. In 2022 Hurley helped Team Ontario U18 to a bronze medal at the Summer Games, while also helping Team Ontario U17 to a bronze medal at Provincials in 2023.

Off the court, Hurley earned Honor Roll recognition in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

Kielsmeier on Hurley: "Sarah brings great skill, size and length to the wing position. Sarah can really shoot the ball, she comes from a basketball family, and has a great feel for the game. Sarah has played at a high level with her club and prep team."
