Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Notches 23rd Win With 83-59 Victory At IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Cleveland State women's basketball team returned to Horizon League play Saturday, notching its program record-tying 23rd win of the 2022-23 campaign with a 88-59 victory at IUPUI. With the win, the Vikings are now on a six-game win streak, and stand at 23-3 overall this year and 13-2 in league play.

GAME STATS
· Destiny Leo led the Vikings with 23 points, while Jordana Reisma added 14 and Gabriella Smith tallied 12.
· Amele Ngwafang and Barbara Zieniewska both grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
· As a team, the Vikings shot 52-percent from the floor on the contest (29-for-55), including a .714 clip during the third quarter (10-for-14).
· Cleveland State combined for 13 steals on the game, including four from Barbara Zieniewska, turning these miscues into 25 points.
· The Vikings held a slight 36-30 edge in rebounds against IUPUI.

GAME NOTES
· Jordana Reisma tied her season-high with the 14 points at IUPUI.
· With 23 points on the day, Destiny Leo tallied her 11th 20-point game of the season, and moved into 14th place on the CSU Scoring List with 1,275 career points.
· Cleveland State's 13 steals on the day marked the 10th game with double-digit steals this season.
· The Vikings shot 50+ percent from the floor for the fifth time this season with the .527 clip against IUPUI.
· With the win, the Vikings tied the program record for wins in a single-season with 23.
· Saturday's victory gave Cleveland State the season sweep over IUPUI, marking the fifth series sweep of the year.

THE GAME
The Vikings were able to get out to a quick start at IUPUI, opening the first quarter with a 10-4 advantage following a Brittni Moore three-pointer midway through the frame, while a Gabriella Smith three-pointer as the clock was winding down put the Vikings up 19-14 after the first 10 minutes of action.

Cleveland State carried its momentum into the second frame then, as an Amele Ngwafang layup put the Vikings up 21-14 just a few possessions into the quarter. Although the Jaguars responded with a basket of their own, Cleveland State went on a 6-0 scoring run midway through the frame, earning a double-digit lead at 27-16 on a Barbara Zieniewska layup.

After trading baskets over the final minutes of the quarter, the Vikings were able to hold their double-digit lead at the halftime break, heading into the third quarter with a 36-26 advantage.

The Vikings were able to extend their lead over the opening minutes of the third quarter then, as six straight points from Destiny Leo, Smith and Moore put the score at 42-26 just 1:34 into the frame. Cleveland State was able to hold this sizeable lead throughout the rest of the frame then, including stretching the lead to 61-41 on a Jordana Reisma layup, before closing out the quarter with a 64-41 lead.

Despite a late IUPUI push, the Vikings were able to control play throughout the final quarter then, coming away with the 83-59 victory to extend their current win streak to six straight games.

Cleveland State will close out the weekend on Monday, February 13, traveling to Purdue Fort Wayne for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
