Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Picks Up 88-49 Victory Over Chicago State

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's basketball team took a break from Horizon League play Tuesday, picking up an 88-49 victory over Chicago State. With the win, the Vikings improved to 22-3 on the season.

GAME STATS
· Three Vikings finished in double-digits, paced by Aminata Ly with 16 points, while Destiny Leo and Sara Guerreiro both added 11 points.
· All 11 Vikings that saw the court Tuesday got in the scoring column.
· Cleveland State shot .456 from the field on the day, including a .533 clip during the second quarter.
· The Vikings combined for 21 assists on the day, including eight from Carmen Villalobos.
· Cleveland State held a 56-32 edge in rebounding against Chicago State, including 12 rebounds from Carmen Villalobos.
· The Vikings outscored Chicago State 46-26 in the paint.

GAME NOTES
· Carmen Villalobos notched a career-high as a Viking with her 12 rebounds on the day, while she also recorded a career-best with her eight assists.
· With her 16 points against Chicago State, Aminata Ly recorded a career-high and her first double-digit scoring game this season.
· The 21 assists marked the third 20-assist game of the year for the Vikings.
· Cleveland State notched its fourth 50-rebound game of the year after finishing with 56 boards.
· Cleveland State improved to 12-1 when playing at home this season, and finished regular season non-league play at 10-1.

THE GAME
After a slow start to the contest, the Vikings were able to close out the first quarter with an 11-0 run, including a Deja Williams three-pointer as time was expiring to put the score at 16-7 after the first 10 minutes of play.

A Brittni Moore jumper to open the second quarter gave Cleveland State a double-digit lead at 18-7 then, while a 12-0 run midway through the frame extended the Viking lead to 21 points at 32-11 following a Sara Guerreiro layup. Cleveland State then closed out the frame on a 6-2 run, with layups from Amele Ngwafang, Gabriella Smith and Aminata Ly, to give the Vikings a 38-17 lead at the halftime break.

The Vikings were able to maintain control throughout the third quarter then, as back-to-back shots from Ly and Shadiya Thomas put the score at 66-29 with just over one minute left on the clock, while another Guerreiro layup gave Cleveland State a 73-31 advantage heading into the final quarter.

Cleveland State then held its sizeable lead throughout the final 10 minutes of action, even extending its lead to 50 points at 81-31 on a Thomas jumper, before closing out the contest with the 88-49 victory.
