Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Notches 20th Win With 61-43 Victory Over RMU

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's basketball team returned home to begin the month of February Thursday, picking up a 61-43 victory over Robert Morris. With the win, the Vikings improved to 20-3 on the year, while also improving to 11-2 in Horizon League play.

GAME STATS
· Destiny Leo led the Viking offense with 30 points, while Amele Ngwafang added 10 points and Brittni Moore chipped in nine.
· Amele Ngwafang grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds, while Gabriella Smith recorded eight boards.
· The Vikings combined for 10 assists on the day, including four from Deja Williams.
· Cleveland State finished with seven steals, and forced RMU into 20 turnovers.
· The Viking defense held RMU to just 43 points and a .254 clip from the field.

GAME NOTES
· Destiny Leo recorded her third 30-point game of the season after finishing right on the number against RMU.
· With her 10 points and 10 rebounds on the day, Amele Ngwafang recorded her second straight double-double and sixth of the season.
· With the win, the Vikings notched their third 20-win season over the last four years.
· Thursday's win gave the Vikings the season sweep over RMU, their third season sweep of the year.
· Cleveland State improved to 10-1 when playing at home this season.

THE GAME
After ending the first 10 minutes of action tied at 17-17, the Vikings were able to open the second quarter with an 8-0 run, gaining a 25-17 advantage on an Amele Ngwafang free throw at the 3:45 mark.

Although an RMU three-pointer would snap the Viking scoring run, another 9-0 run from Cleveland State over the final 2:43 of the frame would give the Vikings a 34-20 lead heading into the halftime break.

The Vikings carried their momentum into the third quarter then, as a Destiny Leo jumper put the Vikings up 36-20 just 30 seconds into the frame, while a stretch of nine straight points midway through the frame gave Cleveland State a 21-point advantage at 47-26 following a Carmen Villalobos layup.

Cleveland State then closed out the frame with a Jordana Reisma layup, taking a 49-26 lead into the final 10 minutes of play.

The Vikings were able to hold their 20-point lead throughout the fourth quarter then, extending their advantage to 59-35 on a Leo three-pointer, before closing out the contest with the 61-43 victory.
