Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Picks Up 72-51 Victory At Oakland

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Cleveland State women's basketball team closed out the month of January with a victory Saturday, picking up a 72-51 win at Oakland. With the win, the Vikings are now 19-3 overall this year and 10-2 in Horizon League play.

GAME STATS
· Destiny Leo led the Viking offense with 23 points, while Brittni Moore added 15 and Amele Ngwafang chipped in 12.
· Amele Ngwafang grabbed a team-best 12 rebounds, while Brittni Moore and Barbara Zieniewska both recorded seven boards.
· The Vikings combined for 11 assists on the day, ia-ncluding five from Barbara Zieniewska.
· Jordana Riesma posted two blocked shots against Oakland, while Amele Ngwafang added one block.
· Cleveland State held a 45-35 edge in rebounds.

GAME NOTES
· Amele Ngwafang posted her fifth double-double of the season after finishing with 12 points and 12 boards against Oakland.
· Destiny Leo posted her ninth 20-point game of the year after notching 23 points on the day.
· After posting 23 points against Oakland, Destiny Leo moved into 18th place on the CSU Scoring List with 1,193 total points.
· With her two blocked shots against Oakland, Jordana Reisma now has a team-best 28 blocks on the year, and has tallied 2+ blocks during seven games this year.
· Saturday's win gave the Vikings the season sweep over Oakland, their second season sweep of the year.
· Saturday's game at Oakland marked the fourth of four straight road games for the Vikings to close the month of January.

THE GAME
After heading into the halftime break trailing by one at 27-26, the Vikings were able to take a quick lead to begin the third quarter on a Brittni Moore layup, before a 6-2 run for Cleveland State forced Oakland into an early timeout with the Vikings leading 34-29.

The two teams then traded baskets over the next few possessions, before Cleveland State gained a double-digit lead at 44-34 on a Destiny Leo three-pointer with 3:51 left on the clock. The double-digit lead wouldn't last long though, as the Grizzlies were able to trim the advantage to just seven points at 48-41 heading into the fourth and final quarter.

Cleveland State quickly regained its double-digit advantage over the opening minutes of the final frame, as an Amele Ngwafang layup and a Leo and-one put the Vikings up 53-41.

The Vikings then held their sizeable advantage for the rest of the quarter, extending the lead to 17 at 63-46 on another Leo and-one, before a Moore three-pointer with just 44 seconds remaining gave Cleveland State a 20-point lead at 72-51 – which would go on hold for the final score of Saturday's contest.
