Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Gets Back In Win Column With 103-72 Victory At Wright State

FAIRBORN, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's basketball team got back in the win column Friday evening, picking up a convincing 103-72 victory at Wright State. With the win, the Vikings are now 17-2 overall this season and 8-1 in Horizon League play.

GAME STATS
· Destiny Leo led the Viking offense with 31 points, while Brittni Moore added 15 points, Jordana Reisma and Sara Guerreiro both added 11, and Amele Ngwafang chipped in 10 points.
· Amele Ngwafang grabbed a team-best nine rebounds, while Sara Guerreiro added seven boards and Faith Burch and Carmen Villalobos both recorded six rebounds.
· The Vikings recorded 19 assists on the day, including six from Gabriella Smith.
· Cleveland State shot 55-percent from the floor on the game (36-for-65), including a .473 clip from three-point range (11-for-23).
· The Vikings held a 50-14 edge in points in the paint.
· Cleveland State grabbed 45 total rebounds, owning a 45-22 advantage on the boards.

GAME NOTES
· With her 31 points on the day, Destiny Leo notched her first 30-point game of the season, with 23 of her 31 points came during the first half, including a 7-for-9 effort from behind-the-arc.
· This marked the first game this season that five Vikings finished in double-figure points.
· Jordana Reisma recorded her second double-digit scoring effort with 11 points against the Raiders.
· Cleveland State recorded its first 100-point game of the season.
· Friday's game at Wright State marked the first of four straight road games for the Vikings to close the month of January.

THE GAME
After a back-and-forth start to the contest, the Vikings went on an 8-0 run midway through the first quarter, with a Brittni Moore layup at the 4:43 mark putting Cleveland State up 18-9. The Vikings were then able to hold the advantage throughout the rest of the frame, with seven straight points to close out the quarter giving Cleveland State a 32-16 lead heading into the second quarter.

Despite trading baskets over the first few possessions of the second quarter, the Vikings responded with an 8-0 run – including a pair of Destiny Leo three-pointers – gaining a 20-point lead at 42-19 with 5:42 on the clock.

The Vikings then added seven more points, extending their scoring run to 15-0, extending their lead to 49-19 following yet another Leo three-pointer. Two more three-pointers from Leo over the final minutes of the frame gave the Vikings a sizeable lead heading into the halftime break, as they brought a 56-27 advantage into the third frame.

Amele Ngwafang got the Vikings on the board first during the third quarter then, before another Ngwafang basket a few plays later gave Cleveland State a 30-point lead at 60-30 less than a minute into the frame. Over the next few minutes the Vikings were able to hold off a Raider scoring run, and regain a 70-39 lead after a trio of Leo free throws.

Four straight points from Moore then gave the Vikings a 74-39 lead at the 4:50  mark, before an 8-0 run put the Vikings up 82-39 on a Faith Burch layup. Cleveland State went on to close out the frame with a 90-50 advantage.

After holding their sizeable lead throughout the majority of the fourth quarter, the Vikings eclipsed the century mark on a Sara Guerreiro jumper to put the score at 100-72, before closing out the 103-72 victory.
