Ngwafang Named #HLWBB Player Of The Week

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After leading the Vikings to a pair of wins against Purdue Fort Wayne and IUPUI last weekend, Cleveland State senior Amele Ngwafang has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week. This marks the fourth time this season that Cleveland State has earned the award, while it marks the first weekly accolade for Ngwafang on her career. 

Last time out, Ngwafang and the Vikings picked up a 74-56 victory against Purdue Fort Wayne and a 92-59 win over IUPUI, extending their record-setting win streak to 15 consecutive wins, and improving to 15-1 on the year. The Purdue Fort Wayne and IUPUI wins also kept Cleveland State perfect in #HLWBB play (6-0) and undefeated at home (8-0).

Ngwafang averaged a double-double on the week with 20.5 points and 11.0 rebounds, shooting 78-percent from the floor (15-for-19). The forward opened the week with a 16-point, 15-rebound double-double against Purdue Fort Wayne, and followed that up with a career-high tying 25-point effort against IUPUI. 

In her 25-point performance against the Jaguars, Ngwafang shot 84-percent from the floor (11-for-13), while she also combined for four assists and one steal on the week. 

So far this season, Ngwafang is averaging 9.1 points per game, and leads the Vikings with 104 total rebounds – ranking seventh among league players with 6.5 boards per game.  

Ngwafang joins Destiny Leo (11/28, 12/5) and Brittni Moore (12/12) as #HLWBB Player of the Week honorees, with Cleveland State earning a league-leading four accolades so far this season.
