Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Closes Out 2022 With 70-52 Victory At RMU

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The Cleveland State women's basketball team won its 13th straight game Saturday afternoon, picking up a 70-52 victory at RMU to remain perfect in #HLWBB play. On the season, the Vikings are 13-1 overall and 4-0 in Horizon League play.

GAME STATS
· Destiny Leo led the Viking offense with 21 points, while Jordana Reisma added 14 points and Deja Williams chipped in 10.
· Carmen Villalobos grabbed a team-best seven rebounds, while Brittni Moore and Barbara Zieniewska both recorded six boards.
· Deja Williams and Barbara Zieniewska both recorded three assists on the day.
· The Vikings combined for seven steals, including two from Brittni Moore.
· Cleveland State shot 47-percent from the field on the game, including .600 clips or better during the second and third quarters.
· The Vikings held a slight 44-40 edge in rebounding against RMU.

GAME NOTES
· Jordana Reisma recorded a career-high with 14 points at RMU, going 5-for-5 from the field.
· Destiny Leo recorded her fifth 20-point game of the season at RMU, including a 13-for-13 effort from the free throw line.
· With the win, the Vikings are now 4-0 to start #HLWBB play for the second straight season.
· The Vikings finished the month of December with a perfect 8-0 record.
· With the win, the Vikings extended their current win streak to 13 straight games – a program record.

THE GAME
Despite trailing by eight points after the first quarter at 19-11, the Vikings used a strong second frame to work their way back into the contest and take a 28-26 lead into the halftime break after outscoring RMU 17-7 during the second 10 minutes of action.


Cleveland State then opened the third quarter with a 5-2 run, with all five points coming from Destiny Leo, maintaining its lead at 33-28 just over one minute into the frame. After trading baskets with RMU over the next few possessions, the Vikings used a stretch of five straight points to gain a double-digit lead at 42-32 following a Jordana Reisma free throw at the 3:43 mark.

A Leo layup on the ensuing Cleveland State possession put the Vikings up 44-32, before a pair of Barbara Zieniewska free throws and a Deja Williams jumper gave the Vikings a 48-32 advantage with just 11 seconds left on the clock.

The Vikings were then able to take a 48-34 lead into the final quarter after outscoring RMU 20-8 during the third frame.

A Brittni Moore and-one play got the Vikings on the board first during the fourth quarter, as Cleveland State was able to withstand a late RMU run to maintain its sizeable advantage throughout the final 10 minutes. The Vikings were once again able to post a strong effort from the free throw line over the final minutes of play, going 8-for-10 over the final 2:10 to clinch the 70-52 victory.
