Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Picks Up Ninth Straight Win With 76-58 Victory At Akron

AKRON, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's basketball team extended its win streak to nine straight games Sunday, picking up a 76-58 victory at Akron. The Vikings are now 9-1 on the season.

GAME STATS
· Destiny Leo led the Viking offense with 21 points, while Brittni Moore added 16 and Barbara Zieniewska chipped in nine.
· Barbara Zieniewska recorded a team-best 10 rebounds, while Amele Ngwafang and Jordana Reisma each grabbed seven boards.
· As a team, Cleveland State recorded 16 assists on 28 made field goals, including four from Destiny Leo and three from Gabriella Smith.
· The Vikings recorded nine steals – with four from Brittni Moore and three from Destiny Leo – and forced Akron into 21 turnovers.
· Cleveland State held a 36-10 advantage in points in the paint, and a 22-9 edge in points off of turnovers.

GAME NOTES
· Destiny Leo recorded her fourth 20-point game of the season and moved into sole possession of ninth place on the CSU Career Three-Point Field Goal list with 155.
· With the 10 boards against Akron, Barbara Zieniewska has now recorded double-digit rebounds twice this season.
· The 16 assists on the day marked the third time this season that Cleveland State has recorded 15+ helpers in a single-game.
· The Vikings are now 4-0 during the month of December.
· Thursday's game marked the second of six straight road games for the Vikings.
· With the win, the Vikings extended their current win streak to nine straight games.

THE GAME
After controlling play throughout the majority of the first half, Cleveland State used a 7-3 run over the final 1:28 of the second quarter to take a 43-29 lead into the halftime break. During this run, the Vikings got four points from Aminata Ly and three from Destiny Leo.

Although the Vikings were able to get on the board first during the third quarter with an Amele Ngwafang layup, the Zips were able to notch six straight points to trim the CSU lead to 45-35 with just over eight minutes left in the frame.

A Brittni Moore jumper at the 7:55 mark stopped the Akron scoring run, and sparked a 12-0 run for the Vikings, giving them a 57-35 lead on a Gabriella Smith layup with 2:35 left on the clock. The Vikings were then able to close out the frame on a mini 4-3 run, taking a 61-38 advantage into the fourth and final frame.

Cleveland State was then able to hold a 20-point lead throughout most of the fourth quarter, coming away with the 76-58 victory to improve to 9-1 on the season and remain perfect in the month of December.
