Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Picks Up 86-30 Victory Over Detroit Mercy

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's basketball team continued #HLWBB play Sunday, picking up a convincing 86-30 victory over Detroit Mercy. With the win, the Vikings extended their current win streak to seven straight games, improving to 7-1 on the season and 2-0 in #HLWBB action.

GAME STATS
· Destiny Leo led the Viking offense with 24 points – including 20 first half points. Amele Ngawafang chipped in nine points, and Jordana Reisma and Shadiya Thomas both added eight.
· Amele Ngwafang tallied a team-best seven rebounds, while Sara Guerreiro and Aminata Ly each grabbed four boards.
· Cleveland State shot 60-percent on the game, including a .688 clip during the first quarter (11-for-16).
· The Vikings recorded 23 assists on 35 made field goals, including five from Brittni Moore and four from Sara Geurreiro.
· Cleveland State tallied 18 steals against the Titans, with three each from the quartet of Destiny Leo, Gabriella Smith, Barbara Zieniewska, and Aminata Ly.

GAME NOTES
· With 24 points against the Titans, Destiny Leo notched her third 20-point game of the season.
· 11 of the 12 Cleveland State players that saw action on Sunday got in the scoring column, while all but one Viking recorded at least one rebound on the day.
· After finishing with five blocks on the day, the Vikings have now recorded at least three blocked shots in all eight games this year.
· The Vikings held Detroit Mercy to single digits during three of the four quarters in today's game, including just two points during the fourth frame.
· Cleveland State has now started #HLWBB play 2-0 three times under head coach Chris Kielsmeier.
· With the win, the Vikings extended their current win streak to seven straight games, and remain perfect in the Wolstein Center this season.

THE GAME
Cleveland State was able to take control of the contest from the start, as an early 18-4 run forced Detroit Mercy into a timeout midway through the first quarter. The Vikings were then able to hold the Titans to single digits during the frame, taking a 27-8 lead into the second frame.

The Vikings extended their advantage throughout the second quarter then, as a 20-point first half from Destiny Leo helped Cleveland State take a 47-13 lead into the halftime break.

Although Detroit Mercy was able to flip the momentum over the first part of the third quarter, the Vikings responded with an 11-0 run to close out the frame, regaining control and taking a 64-28 lead into the final 10 minutes of action.

Cleveland State carried its momentum into the fourth quarter then, outscoring the Titans 22-2 over the final 10 minutes of play to capture the 86-30 victory.
