Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Earns 76-59 Win Against Bellarmine

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's basketball team continued play in the Hampton Inn Cleveland Downtown Viking Invitational Friday, earning a 76-59 victory over Bellarmine. With the win, the Vikings improve to 4-1 on the young season.

GAME STATS
· The Viking offense was led by the trio of Destiny Leo (16 points), Brittni Moore (12) and Sara Guerreiro (11).
· Brittni Moore and Amele Ngwafang both grabbed a team-best six rebounds on the game.
· As a team, the Vikings finished with 12 assists, including three from Deja Williams.
· Cleveland State tallied 13 steals, with three from Deja Williams.
· The Vikings combined to shoot 45-percent from the floor against Bellarmine, including .600+ clips during the second and fourth quarters.  

GAME NOTES
· After finishing with 12 points on the day, Brittni Moore has now tallied 10+ points in four straight games.
· Cleveland State's 13 steals against Bellarmine marked a season-high through the first five games.
· With the win, the Vikings remain perfect in the Wolstein Center this season.
· This marked the first meeting between Cleveland State and Bellarmine in program history.

THE GAME
After trailing by two after the first quarter, the Vikings outscored Bellarmine 30-8 during the second frame to take a 44-24 advantage into the halftime break.

Cleveland State was then able to extend its advantage over the opening minutes of the third quarter, as a 7-1 run gave the Vikings a 51-25 lead on a Brittni Moore layup. The Vikings were able to hold a 20-point edge until midway through the frame, when Bellarmine used a 10-2 run to close the gap to 56-37 with 4:31 left on the clock.

The Vikings answered with a Faith Burch jumper a few possessions later, before closing out the quarter with four straight free throws to take a 62-43 lead into the final 10 minutes of action.

During the fourth quarter, the Vikings were able to withstand another Bellarmine run, with a Destiny Leo three-pointer and Sara Guerreiro layup regaining a 16-point lead for Cleveland State at 69-53 with 4:40 left to play.

Cleveland State was then able to hold onto their sizeable lead for the remainder of the contest, pulling away with the 76-59 victory.

Cleveland State will close out play at the Hampton Inn Cleveland Downtown Viking Invitational tomorrow (Saturday, November 26), hosting St. Bonaventure at 4:00 p.m. inside the Wolstein Center.
