Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Opens Home Slate With 62-46 Victory Over Hofstra

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's basketball team opened the home portion of its 2022-23 campaign Saturday, picking up a 62-46 victory against Hofstra.  

GAME STATS
· Four Vikings finished with double-digit points, paced by Destiny Leo with 19. Sara Guerreiro added 12 points, Brittni Moore added 11, and Amele Ngwafang chipped in 10 points.
· Brittni Moore grabbed a team-best 12 rebounds, while Carmen Villalobos tallied six boards.
· Cleveland State combined for nine steals on the game, including two from Brittni Moore and Sara Guerreiro.
· Deja Williams notched a team-best three assists.

GAME NOTES
· Brittni Moore notched Cleveland State's first double-double of the season, finishing with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
· Cleveland State is now 2-0 all-time against Hofstra.
· This marked the second straight season that the Vikings won their home opener.

THE GAME
After taking a 34-23 lead into the halftime break, the Vikings were able to carry the momentum into the second half, opening the third quarter with a Brittni Moore jumper less than 30 seconds into the frame, to extend their lead to 36-23.

A few plays later the Vikings used an 8-0 run to extend their lead to 20-points, as a Destiny Leo three-pointer at the 6:10 mark put the score at 44-24 to force a Hofstra timeout.

The two teams then traded baskets over the next few minutes, until back-to-back layups from Amele Ngwafang gave Cleveland State a 52-32 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

The Vikings were then able to withstand a fourth quarter run from Hofstra, with some free throw conversions down the stretch clinching the 62-46 victory.
