CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State women's basketball head coach Chris Kielsmeier announced another addition to the 2022-23 recruiting class Monday afternoon, as Carmen Villalobos (Cadiz, Spain) will join the Vikings for the upcoming season.
Villalobos will join the Vikings with two years of eligibility remaining.
"Our entire staff is thrilled to be adding Carmen to our program for the next two years," Kielsmeier said. "Carmen is a versatile wing that can score at all three levels, and her passion and energy is a perfect fit for our Viking Family. She not only excels on the court, but is also a dedicated student in the classroom, and has a determination and drive to bring a championship to Cleveland State."
Villalobos comes to Cleveland State after spending her first three years at Hartford where she was a starting guard for the Hawks, appearing in 56 games through two seasons played.
"I had a feeling when I went on my visit that Cleveland State was the place for me. Everyone I met made it feel like home. CSU is a place that has proven to be successful – academically and athletically – and I'm looking forward to being part of a championship winning team as a Viking," – said Villalobos.
Last year, Villalobos averaged 7.1 points and 6.7 rebounds per game, while also grabbing a team-best 55 steals on the year. For the season, Villalobos notched 11 double-digit scoring games and six double-digit rebounding performances, including three double-doubles.
Villalobos sat out the 2020-21 campaign, but prior to that she was named to the America East All-Rookie Team after averaging 8.6 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game as a freshman. During her first season with the Hawks, Villalobos recorded nine double-digit scoring efforts, while posting 10+ rebounds twice.
Prior to her time at Hartford, Villalobos was a member of the U19, U18, U17, U15, and U14 Spanish National Teams, helping the team capture the gold medal at the BAM International Tournament (U14) and win the European Cup 3x3 Tournament (U18).
