Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Accepts Bid To 2022 WBI

CLEVELAND, Ohio - For the second straight season the Cleveland State women's basketball team will be playing in the postseason, as the Vikings accepted an invitation to participate in the 2022 Women's Basketball Invitational. Cleveland State earned a bid into the eight-team field after finishing regular season play with a 21-8 record.

This year's WBI will be hosted at the Clive Beck Center in Lexington, Kentucky, with action taking place Friday, March 18 through Sunday, March 20. Joining Cleveland State in the eight team field will be Bowling Green, Furman, Saint Mary's, Austin Peay, Davidson, Nevada, and Northeastern.

The Vikings are slated to open WBI play with a first round contest against Northeastern at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 18.

Cleveland State will be making its third appearance in the WBI, and will enter play as the reigning champions after going 3-0 at last season's WBI to claim the program's first-ever postseason title.

The Vikings enter postseason play having won six of their last eight games, and advanced to the Horizon League Championship game for the first time since the 2009-10 season.

This marks the second time that the Vikings will be playing in the postseason in back-to-back years, also doing so during the 2009-10 (NCAA) and 2010-11 (WBI) campaigns.

All-time, the Vikings are 4-4 in postseason play, including a perfect 3-0 mark under head coach Chris Kielsmeier after capturing the WBI Championship last season.
