The Game
After trailing 37-35 at the halftime break, the Vikings were able to put the first four points of the third quarter on the board, as a Gabriella Smith steal and layup and a pair of Nadia Dumas free throws put the lead in Cleveland State's favor at 39-37.
The Titans responded with a 5-1 run, but back-to-back baskets from Destiny Leo and Smith gave the Vikings the momentum once again at 46-42 following a Smith three-pointer at the 5:41 mark. Cleveland State then closed the frame on an 18-5 run, holding a 64-47 edge heading into the final 10 minutes of play.
The Vikings were able to carry their momentum into the fourth quarter then, as back-to-back layups from Smith to open the quarter gave CSU a 21-point lead at 68-47 just over one minute into the frame.
Although the two teams would go on to trade baskets over the next few minutes, the Vikings were able to hold a sizeable lead down the stretch, while an Amele Ngwafang offensive rebound and put-back as time was expiring clinched the 80-60 victory for the Vikings.
