Ngwafang Double-Doubles Leads Women’s Basketball To 86-60 Victory Over Wright State

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's basketball team picked up its second straight win Monday evening, earning an 86-60 victory over Wright State. With the win, the Vikings now stand at 15-4 overall this season and 10-3 in Horizon League play.

Game Stats
· Amele Ngwafang led the Viking offense with 25 points, while Destiny Leo added 14, Isabella Geraci chipped in 13 and Nadia Dumas tallied 10.
· The Vikings grabbed 63 rebounds as a team, including 12 from Amele Ngwafang and nine from Barbara Zieniewska.
· Cleveland State recorded 17 assists on the night, with five from Barbara Zieniewska and four from Destiny Leo.
· The Vikings shot 41-percent from the field, including a .526 clip during the second quarter.

Game Notes
· Amele Ngwafang tallied a CSU career-high with 25 points, while it marked her second 20-point game of the year.
· Along with her 25 points, Amele Ngwafang also posted 12 rebounds for her second straight double-double.
· The 63 rebounds marked a season-high for the Vikings.
· The Cleveland State bench accounted for 50 points on the night, as the Vikings held a 50-11 edge in bench points over the Raiders.
· With Monday's win, the Vikings recorded the season sweep over the Raiders after picking up a forfeit win earlier this season.
· Cleveland State is now 9-1 when playing at home this season (excluding a forfeit win over IUPUI).

The Game
Cleveland State was able to gain a sizeable lead midway through the second quarter, as five straight points gave the Vikings a 23-12 lead just under two minutes into the frame. The Vikings were then able to extend their lead to 20 points midway through the quarter, as a pair of Amele Ngwafang free throws put the Vikings up 38-18.

Cleveland State was then able to take a 45-27 lead into the halftime break, holding the advantage after the first two quarters for the second straight game.

The Vikings then extended their lead over the opening minutes of the third quarter, as back-to-back three-pointers from Deja Williams and Destiny Leo put the score at 51-27 with 8:18 left in the frame.

Although Wright State was able to stop the CSU scoring run on their next trip down the floor, the Vikings responded with another three-pointer, this time from Isabelle Gradwell to give CSU a 54-29 advantage.

The two teams then traded baskets over the next few possessions until a Nadia Dumas layup and Ngwafang and-one play put the Vikings up by 22 points at 66-44, while another Dumas layup over the final seconds of the frame gave Cleveland State a 68-46 lead heading into the final 10 minutes of action.

Despite Wright State opening the fourth quarter on a 10-6 run, the Vikings were able to regain control of the contest with eight straight points – including six points from Ngwafang – earning an 82-56 lead at the 4:15 mark.

The Vikings then held on to their sizeable advantage over the final minutes of the contest, coming away with the 86-60 victory.
