Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Picks Up 54-45 Victory At UIC

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's basketball team picked up its fourth straight win Thursday evening, posting a 54-45 victory over UIC. With the win, the Vikings are now 13-3 overall this season and 8-2 in Horizon League play.

· Destiny Leo lead the Viking offense with 17 points, while Brittni Moore added eight and Gabriella Smith tallied seven.
· Brittni Moore led the Viking rebounding efforts with 11 boards, while Nadia Dumas grabbed seven and Amele Ngwafang recorded six.
· Destiny Leo posted four assists on the game.
· As a team, Cleveland State finished with six blocked shots, including four from Nadia Dumas.

Game Notes
· Brittni Moore posted a season-high with her 11 rebounds against UIC.
· After finishing with 17 points, Destiny Leo has now tallied 15+ points in all but one game played this year.
· With Thursday's victory the Vikings notched the season sweep of the Flames.

The Game
After taking a slim 28-26 lead into the halftime break, the Vikings were able to force a turnover on the first UIC possession of the third quarter, as an Isabelle Gradwell steal led to a Nadia Dumas layup to put the Vikings up 30-26.

The Flames responded with a basket on their ensuing possession, but a 7-0 run capped off by a Gabriella Smith three-pointer, extended the Cleveland State lead to nine points at the 37-28 mark with 6:00 left in the frame.

The two teams then traded baskets over the final part of the third quarter, with Cleveland State taking a 41-35 advantage into the final 10 minutes of action.

Over the opening minutes of the fourth quarter UIC was able to close the gap to just three points at the 42-38 mark, but a Destiny Leo three-pointer with just over seven minutes left to play put the Vikings back up by six points at 44-38.

After forcing UIC to call a timeout, back-to-back baskets from Smith and Leo gave the Vikings their first double-digit lead of the contest at 48-38, with 5:56 left in regulation. Cleveland State then extended its lead to 52-38 following baskets from Amele Ngwafang and Brittni Moore, before going on to control play throughout the remainder of the contest, coming away with the 54-45 victory.
