Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Improves To 3-0 With 93-53 Victory Over Quincy

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's basketball team closed out the first week of the 2021-22 campaign Sunday, picking up a 93-53 victory over Quincy. The Vikings are now 3-0 on the young season.

Game Stats
· Five Vikings finished the game with double-digit points, led by Destiny Leo with 30. Isabelle Gradwell and Nadia Dumas both added 12 points, while Amele Ngwafang posted 11 and Gabriella Smith recorded 10.
· Nadia Dumas grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds, while Amele Ngwafang recorded eight boards.
· As a team, the Vikings shot 49-percent from the floor, including a .533 clip during the first quarter.
· Cleveland State posted 13 total steals on the game, including four from Isabelle Gradwell and Isabella Geraci.
· The Vikings forced Quincy into 22 turnovers, turning these miscues into 30 points.

Game Notes
· Destiny Leo recorded her third straight 20-point game after notching a career-high 30 points against Quincy.
· Nadia Dumas posted her first double-double of the season, finishing with 12 points and 10 rebounds on the day.
· Gabriella Smith has now posted double-digit points in back-to-back games after finishing with 10 against Quincy.
· Cleveland State has now won 10 straight games inside the Wolstein Center dating back to January 23 of last season.
· Sunday marked the first meeting between the two teams in program history.
· Head coach Chris Kielsmeier had a familiar face on the opposing sideline Sunday, as his brother Kelly Kielsmeier is an assistant coach for Quincy.

The Game
After taking a 46-32 lead into the halftime break, the Vikings were able to slowly grow their lead over the opening minutes of the third quarter, including a 7-0 run late in the frame that gave the Vikings a 20-point lead at 62-42. During this stretch the Vikings had a three-pointer from Isabella Geraci, and a pair of layups from Gabriella Smith and Destiny Leo.

Cleveland State then extended its lead on the next trip down the floor, as another Leo layup put the score at 64-42 with 2:19 left in the quarter. The Vikings closed out the frame with a 6-0 run, taking a 70-42 advantage into the fourth and final quarter.

Back-to-back baskets from Smith over the opening minutes of the fourth quarter gave the Vikings a 74-42 lead, before a pair of Amele Ngwafang free throws added to Cleveland State's advantage with just over six minutes left to play.

Cleveland State would go on to hold a sizeable advantage for the rest of the frame then, closing out the contest with a 93-53 win for the Vikings' third straight victory of the 2021-22 campaign.
