CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's basketball team picked up its second straight win to begin the 2021-22 campaign Saturday, notching a 58-49 victory over St. Bonaventure.

· Destiny Leo led the Viking offense with 20 points on the game, while Gabriella Smith added 16.
· Nadia Dumas and Amele Ngwafang both grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, while Barbara Zieniewska finished with seven boards and Isabelle Gradwell posted six.
· As a team, the Vikings notched 10 blocked shots, with four from Nadia Dumas and two each from Destiny Leo and Gabriella Smith.
· Cleveland State outrebounded St. Bonaventure 49-37, including 17 offensive boards.
·The Vikings finished the game with 22 second chance points, along with 32 points in the paint.

· Destiny Leo recorded her second straight 20-point game, and the fifth on her career.
· Gabriella Smith posted her first double-digit scoring game after finishing with 16 against SBU.
· Nadia Dumas tied her career-high with four blocked shots.
· Cleveland State has now won nine straight games inside the Wolstein Center dating back to January 23 of last season.
· Saturday's victory marked the second straight win over the Bonnies for Cleveland State.
The Game
After taking a 26-21 lead into the halftime break, the Vikings were able to extend their lead to 30-21 over the opening minutes of the third quarter, with three straight points from Leo. The Vikings were then able to extend their lead to double-digits midway through the frame, as a Gradwell layup put the Vikings up 35-24 with 5:54 left in the frame.
Cleveland State would hold a sizeable lead for the rest of the frame – and gained the largest lead of the contest at 45-27 following back-to-back baskets from Smith – before closing out the quarter with a 13-point lead at the 47-34 mark.
Although the Bonnies were able to get on the board first during the final quarter, Cleveland State responded with a pair of baskets from Zieniewska and Smith to put the score at 51-36 with just over eight minutes left to play.
The Vikings then held a double-digit lead for the majority of the frame, until a late SBU run closed the gap to single digits. Cleveland State would go on to post the final point of the game on a Smith free throw, closing out the contest with a 58-49 victory.
