White Named Senior CLASS Award Candidate

OVERLAND PARK, Kansas – Cleveland State women's basketball senior Mariah White picked up another honor Monday afternoon, as she was named one of 30 candidates for the 2020-21 Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character, and competition.

White is one of 16 mid-major players to be named a top-30 candidate, while she is the only representative from the Horizon League.

In the classroom, White carries a 3.64 GPA pursuing a degree in Math Education and is on track to graduate Magna Cum Laude. White has earned a spot on the Cleveland State University's Dean List five times and is an annual recipient of Horizon League Honor Roll accolades.

On the court, White has been an integral part of the Viking lineup throughout her career, picking up Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year honors as a junior and All-Defensive Team accolades as a sophomore and junior. Earlier this year, White eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for her career, and enters the final weeks of the regular season just shy of earning a spot on the CSU All-Time Scoring List.

Last year, White led Cleveland State to a 21-11 record, just the third 20-win campaign in program history. Included in the 21-wins was a program record 11-game winstreak, while the Vikings also advanced to the Horizon League Semifinals for the first time in five seasons.

In the community, White is currently serving as the Cleveland State SAAC Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Chair, and is an active participant in the Horizon League's #OneHL Working Group – which was created to bring about meaningful change and action to social issues across the league. White is also a member of the Cleveland State Athletics Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee, serving as the student-athlete representative.

The 30 candidates will be narrowed down to 10 finalists later this month, with the 10 names being placed on an official ballot. Ballots will then be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans who will select one student-athlete who best exemplifies excellence in the four C's of community, classroom, character, and competition.
