Leo Named #HLWBB Freshman Of The Week

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After helping Cleveland State to a weekend sweep against Oakland last time out, women's basketball newcomer Destiny Leo has been named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week. This marks the first weekly honor for the Vikings this season.

Leo and the Vikings picked up a pair of wins against the Grizzlies last weekend, marking their second weekend sweep of the 2020-21 campaign.

Throughout the two games, Leo averaged 19.5 points, recording a season-high 23 points in game one and followed that up with 16 points in the weekend finale. Leo finished the weekend shooting 54-percent from the field (13-for-24), while she was also 58-percent from three-point range (7-for-12).

A majority of Leo's points against the Grizzlies came from behind-the-arc, as she combined for seven three-pointers on the weekend. Leo, who leads all #HLWBB freshmen averaging 2.2 three-pointers per game, has converted three or more shots from behind-the-arc in each of the last four games.

Leo's 23-point effort on Friday marked the first 20-point game of her collegiate career, as she is now averaging 10.7 points per game this season.

Leo also posted a perfect 6-for-6 effort from the free throw line last weekend, while adding six rebounds and four assists.
