Vikings Announce Non-League Series Against Bluefield State

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State women's basketball head coach Chris Kielsmeier has announced a non-league series with Bluefield State to begin the 2020-21 campaign.

The two-game series will take place on Saturday, December 5 and Sunday, December 6, with both games being played at the Wolstein Center. Tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.

The Vikings and the Big Blue have met once before in program history, with Cleveland State picking up a 77-74 victory during the 2014-15 season.

The Bluefield State series will mark the sixth time that the Vikings will be opening a season during the month of December, but the first since the 1992-93 campaign.

Entering the 2020-21 season, Cleveland State returns eight letterwinners from last season's team that advanced to the #HLWBB Semifinals for the first time in five years. This group will be joined by seven newcomers; five true freshmen and two junior transfers for the upcoming year.

The Vikings will be under the direction of third-year head coach Chris Kielsmeier, who owns a career record of 447-147, including a 21-11 record from last season that marked just the third 20-win campaign in program history.

Due to the conditions created by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Cleveland State will begin the season with no spectators inside the Wolstein Center. CSU will work with local health officials to evaluate future spectator plans should those factors significantly improve. All games will continue to be streamed on ESPN digital platforms, while CSU fans can also stay engaged with Viking Basketball by purchasing Virtual Season Tickets and Fan Cutouts.
