Vikings Earn 60-52 Victory Over Youngstown State

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's basketball team improved to 13-3 on the season Friday evening, picking up a hard-fought 60-52 victory over Youngstown State. With the win, the Vikings also improve to 3-2 in Horizon League action this season.

Game Stats
· Mariah Miller led the Viking offense with 17 points, while Mariah White added 13 points and Jade Ely chipped in 11.
· On the boards, Mariah Miller and Savanna Crockett both notched double-digit games, Crockett with a team-high 13 and Miller with 11.
· As a team, the Vikings recorded five blocked shots on the night, with two from Savanna Crockett and Nadia Dumas and one from Aminata Ly.
· Mariah White and Jade Ely both recorded two steals on the night.

Game Notes
· Mariah Miller recorded her third double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
· Savanna Crockett finished with double-digit rebounds for the fifth time this season.
· With her two blocked shots, Savanna Crockett is now just one block shy of moving into the CSU Career Top-10 List.
· Mariah White has now recorded two or more steals during 15 games this season.
· Friday's win over YSU marked the first win over the Penguins since the 2016-17 season.

After working their way back into the contest by outscoring the Penguins 22-7 during the second quarter, the Vikings were able to take a five-point lead into the halftime break, with the score standing at 27-22.

Youngstown State then responded by outscoring the Vikings 26-12 during the third quarter, regaining a 48-39 advantage heading into the final 10 minutes of play.

Over the first part of the fourth quarter the Vikings were able to climb their way back, going on an 8-2 run over a five-minute stretch, and then a Mariah Miller three-pointer at the 4:39 mark tied the contest at 50-50.

Although a Youngstown State basket on the next possession was able to stop the Viking run, Cleveland State responded with the final eight points of the game, closing out the 60-52 victory. During this final stretch, the Vikings had six straight points from Savanna Crockett and a pair of free throws from Miller and Mariah White.
